Frequently Asked Questions

Check-in is at 4:00 p.m. while check-out is at 10:00 a.m.

If you have a special check in / out request, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

We ask that you secure the home (lock doors, windows, and turn down the heat) and that the furniture is put back to the way it was upon your arrival. Start a load of towels in the washer and start the dishwasher. Make sure you have all your belongings. Lock the door and place the key back in the lockbox. We hope you enjoy your stay and will want to come back again to visit us!

Please let us know immediately if you notice anything that is broken or damaged upon your arrival by calling the office. If something is broken or damaged during your stay please contact us at the office immediately. The Damage Waiver will cover up to $500 of any unintentional, DISCLOSED damage.

For any significant concerns or issues you encounter with the vacation rental unit, we provide a dedicated contact number for immediate assistance, available 24/7. This is not for medical or security emergencies, but for urgent matters specifically related to the property, such as maintenance issues or appliance malfunctions. This important contact information is prominently displayed in each home for your convenience. Additionally, each property comes with a comprehensive binder. This resource includes instructions for using the WiFi (including access codes), TV, and any special appliances you might need to use during your stay. We strive to ensure that your stay is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, with support readily available for any property-related concerns.

In San Juan County, power outages can occur occasionally. To ensure your comfort and safety during these times, we provide working flashlights in each of our properties. However, it's important to note that none of our properties are equipped with backup generators. We recommend guests to be prepared for this possibility. For more information on power outages, please visit the Opalco Outage Center or follow the Opalco Twitter Page.

Prior to your arrival and after receipt of full payment you will receive check in instructions that will include directions to the property along with a lockbox code. Arriving on a ferry outside our office hours will still allow you to get into the property without hassle. If you do intend to have a late check in please let us know so we can be sure to have the outside lights on for you!

It is a good rule of thumb to park your car in line for the ferry directly after the sailing prior to the one you intend to catch.

Some homes provide firewood for their wood-burning fireplaces, while some do not. Please check under each properties amenities list and it will tell you whether or not it's being provided at a particular home. If not, there are small bundles of firewood purchasable at King's Market and Roche Harbor Grocery Store.

Many homes have cooking oil and basic spices in their kitchens that are left (i.e. salt, pepper, etc) but guests should always plan on going to the grocery store to buy what they need for their meals.

Each home has a sufficient stock of toilet paper and paper towels for a few days. Hand soap dispensers and individual bar soaps are also provided.

Towels and linens are provided at all of our homes. Beds are made upon your arrival and clean towels will be set out.

The rental agreement clearly indicates the penalties for cancelling your contract and can be viewed on our Policies page. If you are concerned with the cancellation policy you may look at purchasing a Travel Insurance policy through companies such as Travel Guard which may protect your vacation investment due to unforeseen circumstances.

Each person in your party counts as a guest--even infants and young children. Our occupancy ratings are dictated by the county permits each rental property must obtain. Violating the occupancy number would be violating the county permit. Please remember that the majority of these homes are serviced by wells and septic systems--water is a sacred resource in the islands and occupancy numbers are set by the county for a reason.
